Plum Beach Brooklyn: Tree and yellow ribbon

Here is another image from my walk along Shore Parkway.
Plum Beach feels far more remote than it is -- just yards from the
dual carriageway.

Today was this year's second of three NYC Summer Streets. The car-free route runs from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park; you can walk, run, cycle, skate or bark. Next Saturday, August the 22nd, will be the last of the year.
There's lots of free stuff along the route, including bike decorating, bike repairs, street workouts, water, coffee and cheese. There's even free bike hire.

Monica drinking NYC waterMonica Hunken opens her one-woman show at the Living Theatre on Clinton St tomorrow, Tuesday 28th April. Reading the Water "is a surreal journey of a woman exploring the mysterious life—and death—of her scientist father...tales of deep-sea dives, top-secret government experiments, madcap relatives, lawsuits and an untimely death."
As part of Reading the Water, Monica is also raising awareness of the potential harm that natural gas drilling could do in the watersheds that supply New York City. Josh Dick and I have been collaborating with Monica to produce images for the Unfiltered NYC photo exhibit that accompanies the show. We have also set up a Flickr group where you can contribute your own NYC water shots.
$10; $8 student, senior, military discount
Half the proceeds will go to benefit NYH2O, a grassroots group organizing for a state-wide ban against natural gas drilling.

Looking from our Brooklyn roof this evening, I would say the prediction for rain tonight and tomorrow is reasonable.

Yesterday I cycled round Manhattan covering the Time's Up! bike lane clown patrol. The idea was simple. If a car was parked in a bike lane, slow motion bike-clown chaos would ensue as perps were then given a ticket, a sticker and a hug.
