Summer Streets!
Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 09:35PM
Today was this year's second of three NYC Summer Streets. The car-free route runs from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park; you can walk, run, cycle, skate or bark. Next Saturday, August the 22nd, will be the last of the year.
There's lots of free stuff along the route, including bike decorating, bike repairs, street workouts, water, coffee and cheese. There's even free bike hire.

It's been a great few days for watching the skies, both in Park Slope (above) and Manhattan (below).
I picked up a copy of Gavin Pretor-Pinney's The Cloudspotter's Guide at Powerhouse Books
yesterday to try and make sense of it all.

Volcanoes on Manhattan
Monday, May 18, 2009 at 11:18AM
Yesterday hundreds of schoolchildren attempted to break the Guinness world record for the biggest baking-soda-and-vinegar science experiment of all time.

What may have been the largest-ever edible volcano (the record has not yet been confirmed at press time) erupted in chocolate and was then served up to the excited crowd. One can only wonder what mayhem ensued as the world's biggest sugar rush kicked in.
