A couple of reminders from the residents of Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Best Buy: Escalator

Brits in Brooklyn: Gilbert and George at the Brooklyn Museum

The godfathers of YBA opened their show at the Brooklyn Museum with a discussion and book signing this evening. The Gilbert and George retrospective runs until January 11, 2009. Don't miss it.

DUMBO: Art Under the Bridge

The 12th Art Under the Bridge Festival takes place this weekend in DUMBO. It tends to be a very photogenic affair, and it's free.
The Battel [stet] of Gowanus: Kaiju at The Yard

On Saturday afternoon, a most happy and delirious spectacle by the banks of the Gowanus Canal. Not only did The Yard treat us to the excellent "Japanese action comic punk" combo Peelander-Z, we also got to see the cage-fighting monsters of Kaiju Big Battel.

Governors Island: Another Time

On May 31st Governors Island opened up to the public for the summer. Today we took our push-bikes on the free ferry and crossed over the river into the Jazz Age. Michael Aranella and the Dreamland Orchestra were playing to an authentic and beautifully turned out crowd as we arrived.

Most of the old island homes are open for you to wander through.

There is also an outside sculpture exhibit presented by the Sculptors Guild, which has to be seen in amongst the grand and empty architecture.
It is amazing how much open space you can enjoy on the island. Picnic on the abandoned golf course anyone?
Artistic Sign

On West 16th St at Coney Island.
